Yesterday, two NHL players, the New Jersey Devils’ Eric Boulton and the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Jared Boll, received $2,500 dollar fines. Boll delivered an illegal check to the head of San Jose’s Joe Thornton and received a two minute penalty during the game. The second fine is more interesting. Boulton was fined for slashing New York Rangers forward Mike Rupp in the Devils’ 4-3 win on Tuesday. He was not penalized in the game. I’m not going to say that he shouldn’t have been fined, but it seems odd that a player get fined for an act that the referees did not penalize in game. It could be the case that the refs missed it, which is why Boulton got off scotch free. However, if they did see it and felt it wasn’t that big of a deal, then why the fine?

Tonight there are eight games with some good matchups and picks to make. I’ve made two more picks that are available only to members. If you’re curious, sign in now and see what I have to say. If you’re not a member, become one ASAP.
